Those Crazy Kiddos!

 Fishful Thinking has kept us entertained this summer. There is an activity that encourages emotional awareness through the play with blocks. We have definitely mastered the art of frustration as my three year old thinks he's a comedian, while my five and seven year old would debate that fact.

In the video, my three year old busts down the girls' tower. My seven year old, naturally over reacts. My three year old then begins his persuasion declaring, "Don't get so close. You can build another one."

Oh, ain't summer and siblings fun?!

Turning 40--Thank Heavens for Jon Bon Jovi

  40 is NOT What I Thought It Would Be I'm not going to lie. It happened. I turned 40. If only it was THAT simple. You also know that my birthday is a BIG deal if you know me. I count down. I remind you periodically that my birthday is coming. It's typically a week before, the day of, and a week after the celebration. When it's over, I remind you that it all starts again in just 364 more days. It started innocently enough. My routine was not even the slightest bit disrupted. The countdown had begun! This was a momentous year. One of those years you look forward to, like 16, 21, 30...there was a giddiness in me and a bounce to my stride. Then, about four hours before the minute of my birth was to be reached, I heard forty screaming for me to join the "Dark Side." I kid you not. Even the heavy breathing, though that quite possibly could have been me reaching the top of the stairs. Why did it happen? I have no clue. Suddenly, my parade of celebration was a death marc...

My Son's Life Lesson After Graduation: Listen to Your Mother!

 Listen to your mother. I told him it would happen. I told both my boys. And, it happened. My oldest, smart enough to graduate high school , yet not wise enough to take his mother’s advice, broke his collarbone while in Colorado . Eerily ironic, my lesson came at the age of five weeks after turning 16. This same weekend, two decades ago, my cousin, days away from signing a professional motocross contract with Malcolm Smith, raced his home track. It was day two of the weekend race. His bike had acted up the day prior, and he’d spent the night awake on fine-tuning it, tweaking the engine to assure the day's victory. With the first lap behind him, my cousin’s bike’s engine seized as he headed up the face of a jump. My cousin rotated forward, up and over the orange bike’s handlebars. Rider and bike separate.
