Turn Hobbies to Clubs: Get Your Kids Involved

It’s true that every child is as unique as cloud formations in the sky, and that can mean that finding what your little one’s interests are can be a challenge. If you’re struggling to figure out what it is that Junior would enjoy as an extracurricular activity, pay close attention to how they like to spend their free time.

Turn Hobbies to Clubs: Get Your Kids Involved

The Athletic Type

You remember when your kid was a toddler: Always climbing on everything, running to get everywhere and a bundle of energy no matter what time of the day or night it was. Now that they’re older, you might consider looking into athletically-based activities for them.

  • Sports camps are a great option for kids year-round, not only in the summer. Note which sport your little athlete seems to gravitate to and ask yourself “what are some sports camps for youth near me?”
  • Swim lessons are not just great for building endurance in the water from an early age, but they are also fantastic for wearing little ones out. Swimming is not an easy task so if your kiddo has a lot of extra energy to burn off, the pool is the perfect place to do that.

Tech-Savvy

If working with their hands and making things work seems to light your kiddo’s pilot light, look around to see how you can help them get better and more excited about these skills.

  • Coding is a hot profession these days, and there are opportunities for kids of all ages to learn how to do it.
  • Mechanical skills come in all shapes and sizes. Things that go — cars, motorcycles, semi-trucks — get a lot of kids excited, and believe it or not, there are automotive classes for kids!

A Creative Soul

All kids are artists, but some find more enjoyment in the arts than others. Hone your artist’s skills by getting them signed up for classes that get them excited.

  • Watch the art medium that they use the most and find classes nearby that specialize in it. Pottery, jewelry-making, drawing or painting...there is an activity out there for your child!
  • Art doesn’t always mean pretty paintings. If there’s a mini-Mozart or Slash living in your house, music classes are never a waste of time or money. Are they interested in playing an instrument, or does the back end of mixing and recording speak to them?

Getting your kids involved in an activity that they already enjoy is a great way to get them excited about joining a club or group. These are not just great ways to foster skills; they also help kids learn how to work as a team and to form friendships.
